Scientist II/Senior Scientist- BioProduction

Horizon Discovery is an award-winning Biotechnology company headquartered in Cambridge, UK. We deliver science-driven research solutions advancing the understanding of the genetic basis of disease and the delivery of better healthcare outcomes for patients.

We are building the next generation of cell factories for the manufacture of biotherapuetics (i.e. monoclonal antibodies, vaccines).  Internal research programs are dedicated to the genetic manipulation of mammalian cell factories leading to the improved supply of drugs to patients in need.

Due to the growth of our Bioproduction initiative, we require an experienced scientist to join our team.


  • Be hungry to translate new breakthroughs in technology into a world class service offering for our clients.
  • To manage the R&D pipeline to generate and archive isogenic cell lines to agreed timelines.
  • To interpret experimental data and play a significant role in planning of further experiments.
  • To be an effective team member in supporting the research and development functions in Horizon Bioproduction.
  • Set themselves high standards and obtain feedback to ensure the standards are met.


  • Have a basic understanding of the Bioprocess sector and how together our science contributes to influence the future of the industry.
  • Significant mammalian cell culture experience, with flawless aseptic technique.
  • Strong molecular biology skills including gDNA, PCR and RNA isolation and molecular cloning techniques.
  • Quick-witted, sharp as a tack and strong focus on detail leading to reliable results.
  • Strong computer, calculation and analytical skills.


  • Understanding of the challenges faced in the production of monoclonal antibodies, viruses and vaccines.
  • Experience with integrative ‘omics analysis (transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics).
  • Business accumen to translate scientific understanding into new business opportunities.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will have a degree plus a higher level degree (e.g. MSc, MRes or PhD) in Biotechnology or Biological discipline (or equivalent experience) including a minimum of 3 years working in a laboratory setting.

Industry experience preferred

The successful applicant shall lead from the bench and work within an external consortium to meet the demands of a research and development program. Candidate will work across multi-disciplined teams within Horizon to apply current thinking to meet research objectives.
