In Vivo Sales Specialist

Horizon Discovery is an award-winning Biotechnology company headquartered in Cambridge, UK with a global presence across the US, Europe and APAC regions.  Using our proprietary gene-editing platform and deep scientific expertise, we design and engineer genetically-modified cells that are applied in research and clinical applications.  Our rapidly growing product catalogue, service offering and research programmes are powering progress to understand the genetics drivers of disease and ultimately advance human health. 

Role and Responsibilities:

We are now looking for a Sales Specialist to develop Strategic Relationships with academic, biotech, and pharma customers across all geographies within the US and product/service lines with emphasis on our In Vivo offering.

The successful candidate will work in collaboration with Key Account Partners (KAP) and BD teams to achieve total revenue targets and recognise the synergistic potential for combining the core competencies of both supplier and customer in joint value creation.

This role will be field-based and will require significant travel to build impactful relationships with our target customers.  Candidates will be considered from any location with good travel connections, with a prefererence for areas based close to key centres of in vivo activity

Key Responsibilities:

  • Broad understanding of drug discovery process and how the Horizon in vivo products/services provide solutions
  • Penetrate new accounts, establish and grow business for in vivo Products and services (CRO, biotechnology, Research Centres, Major Hospitals, SMEs).
  • Drive the customer sales process for the Horizon in vivo product line for opportunities on territory by customer facing visits, phone and e-mail as appropriate including up to 50% travel.
  • Represent the Horizon in vivo team at meetings on territory and in account presentations to drive awareness and education, generating new business leads.
  • Work with the Horizon BD and KAP North American Sales Team to develop the territory strategic plan and report back to Line Manager and Commercial Team on a fortnightly basis.
  • Engage constructively with existing customers to maintain and develop business opportunities.
  • Provide quotations, answer product questions and close the sales process with the customer.
  • Follow Horizon in vivo Division guidance on pricing strategy.
  • Responsible for entering and maintaining the CRM database for the Territory.

Core Skills Required:

  • Ability to quickly understand wide range of technical concepts and ability to explain them and their benefits to others
  • Excellent understanding of in vivo market, including platforms available
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of customer personality types
  • Experience working with a CRM database
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Minimum Qualification or Experience Needed:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
  • Biochemistry, molecular biology, mammalian physiology degree desirable.
  • Previous sales experience (three to five years in related industry required) with proven track record of success

Qualification, knowledge and key skills:

  • Broad understanding of drug discovery process and how the Horizon in vivo products/services provide solutions
  • Current network of biotech and Pharma C level contacts
  • Science degree preferable
  • Able to build and present business plan and strategically execute the plan
  • Evidenced success of closing and maintaining >$1M accounts with impact across and organization at multiple sites
  • Comprehensive application of Miller Heiman Conceptual and Strategic Selling tools preferred.

You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, team environment and on multiple projects with constantly changing priorities and deadlines, be well organized, self-motivated and have excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
