Associate Counsel

Horizon in now actively seeking for an Associate Counsel to join their legal team in Cambridge. The ideal candidate is either a qualified solicitor in England and Wales (0-2 PQE) or a junior Lawyer qualified in a common-law jurisdiction. For the right candidate, Horizon will also consider applications from a senior contracts manager or senior paralegal with at least 5 years’ of corporate experience in an in-house legal team with a particular focus in licensing (as an Assistant Counsel).

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in drafting, reviewing, negotiating and advising on a wide range of contracts including licensing and service agreements, LULLs, NDA’s and other such transactional documents.

In particular Horizon’s ideal candidate will:

  • Monitor and manage Horizons licensing obligations;
  • Assist senior stakeholders in mitigating potential legal issues and risks related to licensed or licensing technologies;
  • Develop the required expertise in Horizon’s products and services, and build a strong relationship with Horizon’s business units; 
  • Advise senior stakeholders on a variety of ad-hoc legal queries/issues;
  • Liaise, in conjunction with our current Associate Counsel, with external counsel as necessary.
  • Keep abreast with industry developments, best practices and benchmarks in relation to all regulatory matters that are applicable to Horizon.

The successful candidate will have:

  • At least an LLB or equivalent Law degree from a reputable University and/or an LPC;
  • Substantial IP / Licensing drafting experience (whether in private practice or in-house);
  • 2- 5 years’ corporate experience, ideally in tech transfer, biotech and/or healthcare related industry;
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, analytical, verbal and written communications skills.


You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, team environment and on multiple projects with constantly changing priorities and deadlines, be well organized, self-motivated and have excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
