Production Scientist - 12 month contract

Horizon Discovery is an award-winning Biotechnology company headquartered in Cambridge, UK.  Using our proprietary gene-editing platform and deep scientific expertise, we design and engineer genetically-modified cells that are applied in research and clinical applications.  Our rapidly growing product catalogue, service offering and research programmes are powering progress to understand the genetics drivers of disease and ultimately advance human health. 

The Diagnostics (HDx) team, provides genetically defined, human genomic reference standards, including FFPE cell line blocks, and purified gDNA. These standards offer a sustainable source of reference material to laboratories, proficiency schemes, and manufacturers, and provide an unprecedented level of control to the molecular pathology community. The availability of genetically defined reference standards provides an industry standard for development and quality control of molecular assays, directly improving their accuracy.

We have an opportunity for a scientist to join our team for a fixed 12 contract .The successful candidate will join a dynamic team working under ISO13485 to ensure the highest quality genomic reference materials are produced.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the generation and quality testing of existing products including FFPE cell line blocks, purified gDNA and FISH slides.
  • Support technical development of new products.
  • Ensure production records are acurately maintained in accordance with the quality system.
  • Assist in preparation of SOPs and ensure that current procedures are kept up-to-date.
  • Ensure product quality by maintaining a high standard of work.

Experience:

  • Degree educated in cell or molecular biology.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following techniques: PCR, qPCR, DNA sequencing (Sanger or NGS), cell culture, FISH, IHC or handling FFPE tissues.
  • Must work well in fast paced team environment
  • Should be well organized and self-motivated.
  • A careful and meticulous nature and attention to detail are essential.
  • Must possess good IT skills (MS Office).

You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, team environment and on multiple projects with constantly changing priorities and deadlines, be well organized, self-motivated and have excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
