Scientist - Automation

Horizon Discovery is an award-winning Biotechnology company headquartered in Cambridge, UK.  Using our proprietary gene-editing platform and deep scientific expertise, we design and engineer genetically-modified cells that are applied in research and clinical applications.  Our rapidly growing product catalogue, service offering and research programmes are powering progress to understand the genetics drivers of disease and ultimately advance human health. 

Due to the growth of our High Throughput Screening Platform, we require two Automation Scientists to join our newly formed team to;

  • Operate, maintain and quality control the testing of high throughput screening production equipment including ECHO acoustic dispensers and robotic arms in a bespoke automated setting.
  • Enusre effective operation of bespoke LIMS to manage and track screening runs
  • Troubleshoot scientific production equipment so that program timelines remain on-track for anticipated data-delivery
  • Monitor and record production run progress, errors and corrective action in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Customer oriented and familiar with current good laboratory practices (cGLP)

The successful candidate will have experience of writing software scripts

  • Experience with operating and troubleshooting production equipment
  • Experience in fast paced environment with aggressive timelines
  • Customer-oriented team member
  • Experience writing software scripts a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a BL-2 environment

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

Degree in a scientific field of study (Biotechnology or related Biological or Engineering discipline)
2+ years experience in a laboratory setting (Biotechnology manufacturing preferred)
Previous experience of running automated systems and using LIMS

You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, team environment and on multiple projects with constantly changing priorities and deadlines, be well organised, self-motivated, possess good trouble-shooting skills and have excellent communication skills and attention to detail. Note that this position will require flexible working to cover 7 day operations.
