Senior Scientist (Custom Study Co-ordinator)

As a part of our growing High Throughput Screening Platform, we require two study coordinators to join our newly formed team and manage custom screening and platform development projects.

This is a key role where the successful candidate will be required to interact widely with acknowledged experts within and outside own discipline. The post-holder must therefore be able to think more broadly than the role and use this insight to challenge and adapt current approaches/ways of doing things.
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, execute, concentration selection, QC and analysis of custom high throughput arrayed compound screening projects
  • Liaison with cell culture, compound management and automation scientists to co-ordinate successful execution of custom projects
  • Identify and solve problems associated with their own projects
  • Preparation of client reports and data packages, planning of follow-up studies and reporting on milestone delivery and project status to department manager and project management office.
  • Maintain an awareness of the current techniques/technologies and apply these to experimental design
  • Understand underlying issues or needs and proactively engages in development or identification of novel solutions, products or services
  • Development of novel assays to drive the expansion of the HTS platform and screening offerings
  • Set and ensure compliance to the agreed high standards through effective communication whilst highlighting the need for compliance and the its impact.

CORE SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:

  • Extensive experience in mammalian cell culture with excellent aseptic technique
  • Excellent cell biology expertise such as growth or imaging assays, ELISA, HTRF and FACS assays
  • A strong background in a disease area
  • Significant assay development experience, good planning and excellent organization skills
  • Ability to function independently and manage own projects effectively
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work at pace, maintain a high workload, work under pressure and make decisions in the absence of complete information in an environment with frequently changing priorities
  • A careful and meticulous nature with exceptional attention to detail
  • Fully reliable team member, with good communication skills and ability to self critique


DESIRABLE SKILLS

Experience in interpretation and handling of large screening datasets
High through-put/high content screening and interpretation of compound dose response data
Knowledge of combination science

Demonstrated ability to work in a BL-2 environment
Knowledge of lab information management systems (LIMS), acoustic dispensers, liquid handling and cell culture automation and plate readers
Data QC and analysis
Experience of working in an industrial setting

The ideal candidate will have have  PhD with more than 2 years experience (or equivalent)

This is a lab-based role and candidates should be highly self-motivated, able to work to tight timelines and be comfortable working under pressure in an environment with shifting priorities. In addition you will be well organized, self-motivated and have excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
