Scientists - In vitro Gene Engineering - New roles

Horizon Discovery is an award-winning Biotechnology company headquartered in Cambridge, UK.  Using our proprietary gene-editing platform and deep scientific expertise, we design and engineer genetically-modified cells that are applied in research and clinical applications.  Our rapidly growing product catalogue, service offering and research programmes are powering progress to understand the genetics drivers of disease and ultimately advance human health. 

We have several openings in our cell engineering group for scientists with responsibilities for delivering challenging in vitro gene-editing projects for our customers as well as establishing and improving new cell engineering approaches to improve our core platforms.  The team is responsible for the production of genetically defined isogenic cell lines and engineered primary cells, including design of targeting strategy, isolation of modified cells, genetic screening and validation; Research and development activities focused around new and improved methods for genome-editing using different techniques and technologies.

Core skills required:

  • Strong molecular biology skills and a good understanding of genetics and gene regulation
  • Strong cell culture experience with good aseptic technique
  • Skilled in experimental design and troubleshooting
  • Good organisational ability to plan and prioritise work
  • Experience of in vitro gene editing (e.g. application of designer nucleases) is preferred

As a Senior Scientist you will manager all aspects of the project and guide other team members, whilst planning and performing innovative experiments to test new ideas and process improvements.  You will be PhD educated, ideally with some experience within a biotech or leading academic institute.

As a Scientist you will develop your skills and work with other team members on complex projects, after demonstrating competence you will be able to manage simpler projects. You will be degree/masters educated with corresponding experience in a biotech or leading academic institute.

Successful candidates will need to be highly motivated, driven, team player with excellent communication skills, attention to detail and excellent record keeping.  You should be comfortable  working in a fast paced environment.
